Franchitti wins rain-hit Indy 500

Dario Franchitti, Indianapolis 500, 2007Dario Franchitti won the 91st Indianapolis 500 as rain fell and brought an early end to the race.

The pack was already running under caution following a spectacular collision between Marco Andretti and Dan Wheldon. Andretti moved high on the track to pass two cars but Wheldon was already there. The two clashed wheels and Andretti’s car rolled before coming to a halt.

It’s been a few years since Indianapolis had a race messed up by rain; they seem to come like clockwork. The event itself went well under the circumstances, though.
