Castroneves takes vital victory to stay in title hunt (Indy Car)

Helio Castroneves headed a Penske one-two at Infineon Raceway to breathe life into his championship effort. He ended a 29-race streak without a win after scoring seven second places so far this year.
It came just days after Penske lost both their original race cars when one of their transporters cost fire. Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe [...]

Scott Dixon takes fifth win of 2008 at Edmonton (Indy Car)

Scott Dixon won once again in the Indy Racing League thanks to rapid pit work by his Ganassi pit crew and a slice of fortunate with the race distance.
Dixon had a quiet race until the late stages when one of his Penske rivals was knocked into a spin and the other fell back in the [...]

Ex-Champ Car drivers shine at Edmonton (Indy Car)

The former Champ Car drivers in the Indy Racing League have enjoyed their best qualifying session of the year at Edmonton. It’s the only time the IRL regulars and the ‘transition teams’ will compete together at an ex-Champ Car venue this year.
Penske duo Ryan Brisco and Helio Castroneves locked out the front row but seven [...]

Scott Dixon lucks in to Nashville win (Indy Car)

A pit lane error handed the Ganassi team a lucky one-two at Nashville. Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon failed to make it into the pits during a late yellow flag period but when rain fell on the track it handed the pair a fortunate one-two.
Helio Castroneves took third ahead of Tony Kanaan and Danica Patrick [...]

Birthday boy Dan Wheldon wins in Iowa (Indy Car)

Dan Wheldon took a canny victory in Iowa after covering the final 90 laps without stopping for fuel - and he did it all on his birthday!
He was able to stretch out his final stint thanks in part to a length caution period after Tony Kanaan crashed out of third on lap 212 of 250.
Wheldon [...]

Danica Patrick becomes first woman to win an Indy Car race

As this site has been down for a couple of days due to a server move I’ve not had chance to write about a remarkable weekend for Indy Car racing in America (however I did write about it in my weekly column for Auto Trader).
It was always going to be strange with half the cars [...]

IRL-Champ Car reunion: it’s looking good

More promising news today that not only might the IRL and Champ Car finally re-unify, but they might even do it in time for the 2008 season.
This can only be good news for open wheel racing in America. The prospect of Justin Wilson, Graham Rahal, Paul Tracy et al taking on Dan Wheldon, Marco Andretti [...]

IRL Infineon: Dixon takes title lead

What had been a pedestrian Indy Racing League round at Infineon Raceway came alive in the final laps when runaway leader Dario Franchitti clashed with team mate Marco Andretti.
That let rival Scott Dixon in to snatch the win and the lead of the championship in dramatic style.
Franchitti clung on to take third after strong support [...]

IRL Mid Ohio: Dixon seals his hat-trick

Scott Dixon won his third consecutive IRL race and closed to within 24 points of championship leader Dario Franchitti with five rounds remaining.
The New Zealander moved to the front in a processional race at the Mid Ohio road course by playing a canny strategic game. But Franchitti minimised the damage by following him home second.

IRL Nashville: Two in a row for Dixon

Scott Dixon won his second consecutive race of 2007 - and once again it was championship leader Dario Franchitti who followed him across the line.
The rain-delayed race suffered a brief interruption due to further rain but it was a largely incident-free event.
