Touring Cars

Gary Paffett, Mika Hakkinen, Mercedes, DTM, 2005They may look like regular road cars on the outside, but on the inside they’re real racing machines.

Touring car racing has historically been big in Great Britain and Germany where each has strong national series. But both struggled in the 1990s and have changed significantly since then.

The German Touring Car Championship (DTM for ‘Deustchen Tourenwagen Masters’) features powerful V8 cars from Audi and Mercedes. The British Touring Car Championship cars are less powerful - but no less spectacular.

The World Touring Car Championship was formed from the European Touring Car Championship in 2005.
